About Esteem
Esteem is a youth charity built by and for young adults aged 14 to 26, offering group activities and one-to-one support in Shoreham-by-Sea. In our space, any young adult can find their people, take on real responsibility, and discover what they are capable of.
Esteem creates spaces where everyone matters.
Each year, 250 young adults from across Sussex spend time with us. They come from many different communities and bring a wide range of experiences, with many navigating three or four social barriers at once. Participation runs through everything we do, with young adults shaping sessions, projects and the organisation itself at every level.
As a Bank Youth Worker, you will work alongside our youth work team to support Esteem's activity sessions. These sessions are where young adults meet others, connect, take on real responsibilities and challenge themselves. Working as part of the team, you will help keep every session inclusive, so young adults can take part, share ideas and shape what happens.
Please note this is an ad-hoc role covering periods of sickness and annual leave, often at short notice.
Principal tasks and responsibilities
Assist in running social sessions for young adults, including encouraging participation in activities, setting up and helping to pack down the space, supporting socialisation amongst young adults, listening to young adults’ ideas and feeding important insights back to the organisation, and encouraging young adults to follow Esteem’s core values of Trust, Support and Respect.
Help to maintain records of attendees and ensure relevant documentation is completed
Support the young adults to take a lead in shaping Esteem sessions and activities. For example supporting participants to choose session activities they like.
Support group sessions working with Esteem’s Youth Worker’s to deliver sessions. Leading activities when required.
Share responsibility for closing down the building
Safeguarding young adults and raising any safeguarding concerns with the Safeguarding team
Signpost drop-in participants to Esteem opportunities and promote relevant events and projects
Following organisational risk assessments and health and safety guidance to ensure sessions run smoothly and safely.
Participate fully in team pre-briefs before sessions and debriefs following sessions.
To assist us with planning we request that rota requests are responded to promptly.
