
Swim Buddy
About this role
Do you love swimming, being active, and helping others build confidence and have fun? Join Seeability as a Swim Buddy Volunteer and support people with learning disabilities, autism, and sight loss to enjoy swimming and water-based activities.
This role could involve supporting sessions in a 25m swimming pool or in a hydrotherapy pool, helping people feel safe, relaxed, and included while having fun in the water.
What You Will Be Doing
As a Swim Buddy Volunteer, you will support people we support to enjoy swimming sessions and water activities in a friendly and encouraging environment. This could include:
- Supporting swimming sessions in a 25m pool or hydrotherapy pool
- Encouraging confidence and participation in the water
- Providing companionship, reassurance, and motivation
- Helping create a calm, positive, and fun experience
- Sharing conversation, laughter, and achievements together
- Supporting people to stay active and enjoy new experiences
You will always work alongside SeeAbility staff and follow guidance to ensure everyone feels safe and supported.

Skills Required
We are looking for volunteers who are:
- Friendly, patient, and reliable
- Empathic, understanding, and encouraging
- Confident swimmers and comfortable in the water
- Positive and enthusiastic
- Comfortable supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, and sight loss
You do not need previous volunteer experience, but you must be able to swim confidently.
Requirements
- Complete a DBS check
- Provide references
- Complete online training provided by SeeAbility
