Personal Assistant (PA) to the Director
Organisation: SPIN (Single Parent Information Network)
Location: Central Brighton and remote (hybrid)
Commitment: 1-2 days per week (currently including Fridays), plus remote tasks
Status: Volunteer / Unpaid
About SPIN
SPIN is a Brighton-based charity supporting single parent families through information, social activities, advocacy and peer support. We are a small, friendly team of volunteers working together to create positive change for families within our community.
Purpose of the Role
The PA to the Director will provide administrative, organisational and communication support to help the Director manage day-to-day operations of the charity. This role helps ensure efficient running of SPIN’s activities, supports engagement with volunteers and members, and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Director with administration and general organisation.
- Communicate with volunteers regarding delegated tasks, meetings and shared information.
- Assist with office bookings and manage the office space (typically on Fridays).
- Support with SPIN accounts relating to both members and volunteers (basic financial tracking, expenses, updates).
- Prepare agendas and take accurate minutes at committee or volunteer meetings.
- Upload and update information on social media, website and member directories.
- Conduct basic research or information-gathering on behalf of the Director or members.
- Contact members to arrange meetings or follow up on queries.
- Assist with other administrative tasks as required.
Skills & Experience
Essential (E) / Desirable (D) Confident computer skills, including Outlook, Word and Excel E Ability to organise tasks, prioritise and manage time effectively E Strong communication and interpersonal skills E Comfortable learning new systems and procedures E Proactive, adaptable and happy to work independently as well as in a team E Experience taking minutes of meetings D Basic bookkeeping or accounts experience DBenefits of Volunteering with SPIN

Practical Considerations
- SPIN’s office is located in central Brighton (full details on our website under "Volunteering for SPIN").
- Volunteers will need their own laptop for both office and home-based work.
- Internet access required for home working.
Availability
- Volunteers currently meet once per week on a Friday, so availability on Fridays is essential.
- Some flexibility is required, as office space must be booked in advance.
- Some communication tasks (e.g., emails) will need to be undertaken from home during the week.
