Background
Trafford Domestic Abuse Services (TDAS) is a Quality accredited, registered charity offering support to individuals and families who are affected by domestic abuse since 1990. We support families who live/work in the Trafford area and provide IDVA and Children and Young
People (CYP) support services in Salford. We provide both intervention and prevention services and work in partnership with other voluntary organisations to support families across
Greater Manchester.

Purpose of the role
To play an integral and active part in the community based IDVA service facilitating the duty IDVA role and support for our established IDVA duty system. You will ensure the provision of risk assessment, initial support and advocacy services to service users who are experiencing or have experienced High risk Domestic Abuse. Acting as the first point of contact for high-risk victims referred to MARAC, supporting service delivery appropriate to the current level of risk, safety planning and making onward referrals. You will work as part of a skilled, multi-disciplinary staff team and must be approachable and highly motivated in supporting and encouraging people experiencing domestic violence/abuse to make informed choices to determine their own future whilst balancing statutory safeguarding requirements.
Main Duties
- Make initial contact, risk assess, safety plan and undertake necessary onward referrals for high-risk adults who have been referred to MARAC.
- Provide person centred, practical and emotional support to adults accessing the IDVA service. This could be via face to face, telephone or other digital means
- Decide on the most appropriate method of offering support to service users in accordance with MARAC and IDVA policy and within available resources.
- To regularly assess risk with service users using the SafeLives DASH Risk Indicator Checklist and ensure that the delivery of the IDVA service is appropriate to the level of risk and liaise with senior IDVA/Team Leader with concerning risks identified.
- Liaise and engage with multi agency partners to promote TDAS services, advise on appropriate referral pathways and facilitate information sharing within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Attend Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC): refer service users to, attend and participate in meetings and complete follow up actions agreed in the meetings as part of the IDVA rota system.
- Participate in statutory meetings including strategy, core, professional, MDT and child protection meetings when required.
- Liaise and work in conjunction with key agencies ensuring that multi-agency work is undertaken as part of the process involved in the assessment and delivery of services provided to adults.
- Liaise with Greater Manchester specialist agencies to provide tailored support to meet the diverse needs of service users e.g. LGBT IDVA
- Hold and manage a small case load as agreed with the Senior IDVA/Team Leader
- Plan and manage own workload working on own initiative, often in times of crisis with support from the wider IDVA team and management.
- Keep accurate, factual and appropriate case recordings and IDVA processes and ensure notes and updates are added in a timely and professional manner
- Ensure the standard and effectiveness of work with service users is consistent and of high quality
- Support the Team Leader/Service Manager on reporting and delivery of outcomes as highlighted in funders requirements.
- Access regular feedback from service users to ensure the continued improvement of services and support offered by TDAS.
- To deliver training and awareness raising sessions to the public/professionals on domestic abuse and its effects on families
- To be aware of, implement and keep up to date with Child Protection/Safeguarding Procedures in accordance with TDAS and Trafford Child Protection/Safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Work in partnership with adults, families, staff, statutory, voluntary and community organisations to promote the welfare and wellbeing of all adults and families supported by TDAS.
General
- Work with the Chief Executive Officer and other staff members to promote and support the development of TDAS.
- To adhere to TDAS Code of Conduct at all times.
- To attend staff meetings when required
- To work in line with, and follow, the policies and procedures of TDAS.
- To ensure that all TDAS policies and procedures are implemented and promoted by staff.
- To actively promote diversity in the organisation.
- To act as an ambassador for and represent the TDAS at external functions.
- To represent TDAS on local and regional forums.
- To build positive relationships and partnerships with key local agencies
- To embody TDAS’s values and act as a role model.
- To participate actively in the management team, contributing to the strategic development of the organisation.
- To undertake any other duties as may be deemed consistent with the requirements of the post.
Additional Requirements
The post holder will be required to liaise with TDAS Chief Executive Officer, Director of
Operations, other TDAS Staff, TDAS Board of Trustees, Statutory, Voluntary and Community
Organisations and other professionals.
There will be a requirement for attendance at some Professional Meetings and training sessions as and when directed by the Chief Executive Officer, Director of
Operations and the Board of Trustees.
