Who we are

Camphill Village Trust is a national charity that has been supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs for more than 70 years.

Across nine communities in England, the Trust enables people to lead meaningful, independent and connected lives through high-quality, person-centred support, underpinned by a strong commitment to inclusion, community and opportunity.

As the organisation enters an exciting new chapter, Camphill Village Trust is seeking an exceptional Chair to build on the significant progress made through a period of transformation and lead the Trust into its next phase of growth and impact.

The successful candidate will shape the future direction of the organisation, bringing people together behind a shared vision, strengthening organisational culture and ensuring outstanding, values-led care remains at the heart of everything they do.

About the role

As Chair, you will lead the Board of Trustees through an important period of development and opportunity. Working closely with a new Chief Executive, you will foster a high-performing, inclusive and strategically focused Board, ensuring that governance, risk and financial oversight remain robust while helping shape the organisation’s long-term direction. This is a visible leadership role that extends beyond the boardroom. You will spend time engaging with communities, colleagues and stakeholders across the Trust, acting as an ambassador for our work. We are seeking a Chair who can bring clarity, perspective and constructive challenge, ensuring a proactive, future-focused and visionary approach to governance.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced and emotionally intelligent leader with a strong track record of governance and board leadership. You will be confident in chairing complex discussions, managing board dynamics and creating an environment where trustees and executives can contribute effectively while being appropriately challenged and supported.

While candidates from a range of professional backgrounds are welcome, you will bring significant board experience, ideally as an existing or previous Chair, or extensive trustee and non-executive experience ready to step into a chairing role.

You will share our ambition for the future, bring strategic vision and sound judgement, and be motivated by the opportunity to help more people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health support needs lead healthy, active and fulfilling lives.

Time Commitment

The time commitment for the Chair is estimated at two to three days per month, encompassing Board and committee meetings, strategy and training events, engagement with senior colleagues, and visits to Camphill Village Trust’s communities. Board and committee meetings are held both in person and virtually. Communities are located across Yorkshire, Middlesbrough, Stourbridge, Gloucestershire and Hertfordshire.
